How to Stimulate & Maintain Your Lymphatic System: Simple Habits for a Healthier You

Hey all! πŸ‘‹

It’s been a minute since my last post life gets busy, right? As the years roll on, so much changes: our routines, our families, our pets, and honestly, sometimes even who we are and feel. In the middle of all that, it’s way too easy to forget about taking care of ourselves. I know I’m guilty of it.
We get caught up in the rat race, running on autopilot, and suddenly we’re wondering why we feel off even when we’re doing “everything right” like eating clean and working out. But here’s the thing: our bodies need more than just good food and exercise, especially if you’re like me and spend a lot of time sitting at a computer and running a business.
The lymphatic system is a huge piece of the puzzle when it comes to how we feel and function. So, I wanted to take a sec to highlight a few key points about why it matters and how to show it some love.

*** Really important side note

First and foremost let’s be honest the lymphatic system doesn’t get nearly enough hype. But if you want to boost your energy, recover faster, and keep your immune system on point, giving your lymphatic system some love is a game changer. Here’s the lowdown on why it matters and how to keep it flowing.

Why Care About Your Lymphatic System?

Your lymphatic system is like your body’s internal clean-up crew. It helps flush out toxins, supports your immune system, and keeps swelling in check. If it gets sluggish, you might feel tired, puffy, or just “off.” Keeping it moving = feeling your best.
Example for my car gals - our cars can't run on a sludged engine can it?

How to Stimulate Your Lymphatic System
1. Get Moving
Your lymph doesn’t have a pump like your heart it relies on you moving! Walking, stretching, yoga, or even bouncing on a mini-trampoline (rebounding) all help push lymph fluid through your body.
2. Stay Hydrated
Your lymph fluid is mostly water, so drink up! Sipping water throughout the day keeps things flowing and helps your body detox naturally. I add some Redmond salt to my water - not all salts are created equal. (I had to convince my mom due to her high blood pressure why this is important)
3. Try Dry Brushing
Before you shower, use a soft bristle brush to gently brush your skin in upward strokes toward your heart. It feels good and gives your lymphatic system a nudge. (Check my list of recommendations below)
4. Lymphatic Massage
A gentle massage, especially around your neck, armpits, and groin (where lots of lymph nodes are), can help move lymph and reduce puffiness. (Working on a list of LMTs that I know and I have taught personally)
5. Deep Breathing
Slow, deep breaths help move lymph fluid, especially in your chest. Try a few minutes of deep breathing every day for an easy boost. (Recommended Apps: Calm, Equinox+)
6. Eat Clean
Depending on what kind of dietary lifestyle you are on load up on organic/clean fresh fruits  and veggies, and cut down on processed foods. Less junk = less work for your lymphatic system.
7. Alternate Hot & Cold Showers
Switching between hot and cold water in the shower can stimulate circulation and get your lymph moving.
8. Red Light Therapy - This is one of my favorites!

Red light therapy helps activate the lymphatic system by improving circulation and encouraging natural lymphatic drainage. The gentle red and near-infrared wavelengths work to reduce inflammation, support detoxification, and enhance the body’s ability to move lymph fluid efficiently. As a result, it can help minimize swelling, strengthen immune function, and promote healthier tissues throughout the body.

9. Sauna - Second Favorite!

Sauna use can have a powerful impact on the lymphatic system by boosting circulation and stimulating lymphatic flow. The heat causes blood vessels to expand and the heart rate to increase, helping lymph fluid move more efficiently throughout the body. This enhanced circulation supports the removal of toxins, reduces swelling, and strengthens immune function. Additionally, sweating in the sauna aids in eliminating waste products, further promoting lymphatic balance and overall detoxification.

Maintenance Tips for a Healthy Lymphatic System

  • Keep moving daily—even a little counts.
  • Prioritize hydration.
  • Add lymph-friendly habits like dry brushing or massage.
  • Eat a colorful, whole-foods diet.
  • Listen to your body—if you’re feeling sluggish, give yourself a little extra care.

The Bottom Line

Your lymphatic system is working hard behind the scenes every day. Show it some love with these simple habits and you’ll notice the difference in your energy, recovery, and overall vibe. Small changes = Big impact!
